Refinishing is a comprehensive process that involves sanding the floor to bare wood, then applying new stain and finish to achieve a brand-new look. Buff & coat, on the other hand, is a less intensive procedure where the existing finish is lightly scuffed before applying a new topcoat. This method is typically one-third the cost of full refinishing.

Refinishing is generally necessary when floors exhibit deep scratches, discoloration, or areas where the wood is exposed due to wear. If the finish appears dull but the wood underneath remains intact, a buff & coat procedure may be sufficient to restore the floor's appearance.

The duration of a refinishing project typically spans one day, though this can vary based on factors such as the size of the area, the condition of the floors, and the specific type of finish being applied.

Our company utilizes dustless sanding equipment to minimize dust production during the refinishing process. However, it's important to note that some fine particles may still be present in the air.

The ability to remain in your home during refinishing depends on the extent of the work and the type of finish used. Certain finishes emit strong odors, which may necessitate temporary relocation from the premises.

To maintain refinished hardwood floors, we recommend using a microfiber mop for cleaning, avoiding excessive water exposure, and utilizing cleaning products specifically formulated for hardwood surfaces. It's also advisable to avoid dragging furniture across the floor to prevent scratches.

We recommend a recoating (buff & coat) every 3 to 5 years to maintain the floor's appearance and protective finish. A full refinishing may be necessary every 7 to 10 years, depending on the level of wear and tear the floor experiences.
